Summary:

The Senior Pricing Actuary provides modeling and pricing support to the underwriting team, as detailed below.
The position reports to the Chief Actuary, Ryan Re Underwriting Managers.


Essential Functions:

  • Treaty account pricing, including:
    review of submission and associated material; compile questions and data requests to underwriters; price account using rating tools, in collaboration with underwriter; review Firm Order Terms and adjust rating if necessary; document actuarial pricing assumptions and decisions.
  • Improve the efficiency and flexibility of existing pricing models, and develop new models as required.
  • Develop and maintain a Profitability Report (a/k/a Actual vs.
    Expected Report), showing premium, reported loss, and expected ultimate loss, by client, account, and Treaty Year.
  • Assist in the compilation of portfolio-level statistics, in particular bound premium, loss ratio, combined ratio, and distribution of accounts by various segments, e.
    g.
    line of business and client category.
  • Assist in the potential future linkage of actuarial pricing systems and underwriting/accounting/reporting systems.
  • Perform actuarial peer reviews of ratings done by other actuaries or underwriters, as requested.

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor s degree or higher.
  • FCAS preferred, but will consider ACAS.
  • Minimum of 5 years reinsurance pricing experience.
  • Programming and model building skills required.
    Strong VBA skills required; other languages (SAS, SQL, R, Python) desirable.
  • Technologically savvy and data driven.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly automated, paperless environment, including specialized software packages.
  • Ability to understand written and oral communication, and interpret abstract information.
  • The individual will be required to proactively manage their time and workload to meet deadlines on account pricing and project targets.
